Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam (MMVS) is the women wing of the Malankara Orthodox Church of India. As one of the church’s major spiritual organisations, it unites female members across all 30 dioceses worldwide, functioning actively in every parish.
Founded in 1928 with the goal of fostering the spiritual growth of women, the organization was named after the Blessed Virgin Mary, whom the founders accepted as their interceding saint. The initiative began under the patronage of Late Very Rev. M.C. Kuriakose Ramban, led by K.M. Annamma and her dedicated co-workers.
Our motto is to : “Pray, Serve in Faith, Shine in Grace”
“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” – Proverbs 31:26
St. Mary's Indian Orthodox Church, MMVS is the spiritual organisation of our church, where we, the women of SMIOC, come together in faith, fellowship, and purpose. Guided by our Vicar’s spiritual leadership, we gather every fortnight to strengthen our spiritual life and grow together in Christ.
Inspired by Proverbs 14:1 “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.", we believe that women are chosen to be builders of homes, churches, and communities through wisdom, love, and godliness. SMIOC MMVS exists to support this divine role, encouraging women to live faithfully and lead with purpose.
We focus on spiritual growth through Bible studies, Lenten meditations, and quizzes that bring us closer to God’s Word. SMIOC MMVS also fosters joyful fellowship through women’s day programs, social outings, and various fun activities such as group retreats, worship nights, creative workshops, and team-building games. These gatherings are designed to unite us in God’s love and deepen our understanding of the biblical call, helping each member to embrace her unique role in God’s plan.
As the backbone of SMIOC, we lead initiatives to support church needs, organize charitable outreach, and raise funds through food sales and community programs. Through shared experiences of joy and service, we grow stronger together serving in faith and shining in grace.
